Pre-Treatment Advice

The following local contraindications will not prevent treatment but your therapist will avoid the contraindicated area:

  • Cuts/Abrasions/broken skin
  • Bruising/Swelling
  • Recent broken capillaries/veins
Please do not book a CryoPen treatment if you currently have any of the following:

  • Hypertrophic scarring or Keloid Scarring or (family history of this type of scarring)

  • Warts and Varrucae - soak and rasp the area to be treated regularly prior to appointment to remove any hard skin that may have built up over the area
  • The histamine in the area treated will create an itchy sensation for about ten minute, do not worry - it is perfectly normal
  • Do not pick the treated area at any time after treatment, your treatment will take longer to heal
  • If a wheel/scab is knocked off accidentally  it will also take longer to heal, but you should still have the same outcome of a successful treatment
  • Blistering can happen with any cryotherapy treatment and is indiscriminate. The Cryopen is the most effective way of avoiding blisters as we are only treating the affected area and not healthy tissue so this is quite rare
 If a blister does appear,
  • Leave it alone, do not pop it, it will go down on its own
  • If it pops: Weeping may occur, if so usea smear of Savlon or Germolene cream twice a day. An adhesive dressing such as a plaster can be used to cover the area. You can also use Savlon or Germolene if the area is tender. You can use non-alcoholic baby wipe to remove any debris from the area affected following it bursting.
These turn black at the base and drop off over a period of one to six weeks. Larger skin tags 3mm+ may need a second freeze, please contact us after six weeks if they need to be retreated. If the area does become tender please us Savlon or Germolene twice a day and a plaster can be used to cover the area

It is recommended, if they are still there, warts should be retreated after 4 weeks following your first treatment

As these are superficial keratin filled epidermal cysts these normally flatten and disappear with Cryotherapy

The treated area may raise and look like a bee sting, do not worry this is perfectly normal and will go down in  a few hours

Over the next 24 hours the area will go darker and create a small crust on the surface, do not pick off. When it naturally falls off you will see new skin (shiny pink), this is not scarring. It will re pigment over the following weeks

  • Please use a sunblock factor 50 on any pigmentation removal until it has re-pigmented, this may take up to eight weeks.
  • You can continue to place make-up, deodorants or perfumes on treated area but try and leave for as long as you can on the day of treatment
  • If the small crust has not fallen off after four weeks please wait until it has done before contacting the salon. Skin sometimes takes longer to regenerate
  • If the skin being treated is tanned, please remember that it will remove any tan and re-pigment to be original skin colour
  • Treatment that do not heal after six weeks should be reviewed by your doctor or dermatologist
